Are you having difficulty creating revenue strategies for your small business? Well, I will show you how our small lawn business makes money on a consistent basis. Through years of trials and error, our business is making a profit. Having multiple streams of income can help you to increase your revenue and minimize pitfalls in the future.
In the Beginning
For starters, my husband started mowing laws using his brother’s lawn equipment. We created flyers and purchased business cards to pass out in our neighborhood. In doing so, we made a lot of people angry but we quickly gained 15 to 20 customers.
Then, we found out about property preservation. Property Preservation is maintaining bank-owned properties until they are sold. After responding to a Craigslist ad for vendors in our local area. The job paid very little but we had an abundance of work. As we learned the ins and outs of preservation we felt comfortable applying as a vendor for some of the bigger preservation companies. As a result, we were signed on with Cyprexx!
Working with Cyprexx changed our life. It was nothing to receive $2,000 to $3,000 in checks a week but, we worked hard.
Learning Government Bidding
The introduction to government bidding came to us at a time when preservation began to slow down. We actually won the first contract we bid on. With no equipment and no employees, we stepped out into unfamiliar territory.
Throughout the years, we have successfully managed local and state contracts. With each contract completion, we amassed valuable knowledge of how to do business with the government.
What are Our Streams of Income
At this point, we operate using 3 streams of income.
- Residential and commercial
- Property Preservation
- and Government Contracts.
The three income sources are the cornerstone of our business. As a whole, government contracts make up the majority of our revenue. For that reason, I recommend small business owners find a place in providing services to either local, state or federal entities. However, understanding the basics when dealing with the government is important.
If you are just starting your business, I suggest you start in the residential and commercial sector and work your way to doing business with the government. Subscribe to my blog and I will show you how to search for opportunities near you, network, and build valuable B2B relationships.
Future Plans to Make Money
We are 8(a) certified, which means we can bid on set aside contracts with the federal government. So, we do have plans on bidding on federal contracts. We are also a certified Minority business through FDOT. So, there are plans to form teaming relationships with primary contractors and provide mowing services for them.
Even though I set monthly and yearly goals, I remain open and available for change. In order to be successful, you must be steadfast with your vision. Without a doubt, whatever your future plans for making money with your small business you will succeed.
